Dead Man Walking: Calvin Johnson Snags ‘Coveted’ Madden 13 Cover
Well, thank you NFL fans. The only shining light in the city of Detroit will soon be dimmed. Hasn’t the home of General Motors suffered enough? Didn’t Michael Moore take you on a journey through the struggling streets after GM closed? Detroit hasn’t recovered since, and Matt Millen did not help, AT ALL.
For once the city sees a break in the clouds that smothered the dreary sky — they draft Matthew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh, Calvin Johnson, and Jahvid Best — fans are excited like when they lost their virginity. Then BOOM! Stafford gets injured while having a career year. All signs pointed to ‘rocky road ahead’. But yet there was a gleam of hope. The Lions still had a promising young defense along with Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, so a force to be reckoned with the Lions still were.
Fast forward to this past season, the Lions had everyone healthy and Stafford had once again a career year, but he was able to play a full season. Every football fan in the city of Detroit and nationwide rejoiced at a team that dealt with perennial oppression for years to finally make the playoffs. Albeit a loss in the 1st round to the Saints in an intense high scoring battle to the end. This was a sign of great things to come for the Lions franchise. Until….
ESPN decided to intervene and come up with a voting contest to anoint the winner for the Madden 13 cover. I hate this. Why? There isn’t a way for the player to back out once selected. At least back in the day when asked if you wanted to be the doomed cover boy, you had the right to PEACEFULLY decline. Now because ESPN picked the players and left it up to fans all hell will break loose in the foreseeable future. The player that wins can’t decline since they were picked by the fans, and we know the fans will label said player a Benedict Arnold or what have you. Calvin Johnson, you my friend are fucked beyond belief. Anyone that knows a lick about football are well versed on the origins of the ‘Madden Curse’ and if you don’t, I’d advise you to become aware because this shit is scary true.
For everything holy let’s pray that the ‘Madden Curse’ doesn’t perform painstaking open heart surgery on Lions fans. The problems that city goes through are nothing short of the rapture.

All of this before heading down to All-Star Weekend 2012 in Orlando, where Spread Love went on to win the 3-point shoot out. Whether you follow basketball or not, this guy is a great person to look to for motivation, he keeps his head down and continues to let his performance speak on his behalf. So now, 1 year later from his debut on Maestro Knows, we’re back with #2!
